The developments from the Bihar Assembly Election in 2025 indicate a strong mandate for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which appears set for a substantial victory. By early that afternoon, the NDA had established leads in more than 200 of the assembly’s 243 seats, well ahead of the majority requirement, and well over the number of seats it won in 2020 when it won 122 seats.
Should the trends continue, Nitish Kumar, already Bihar’s longest serving chief minister, is expected to win a fifth consecutive term and consolidate his power in Bihar.
As of 1:30 PM, the NDA was performing so well that the Mahagathbandhan, whose leading party is the RJD, was leading in only about 38 seats, a staggering defeat for the opposition. Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party was in no position to compete, not leading in any state seat.
In terms of recognizable candidates, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav was leading from Raghopur, noting while his party is undergoing a challenging electoral battle. Other recognizable candidates or fellow party leaders that had seats to monitor were current Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Tej Pratap from the JJD, and the Bihar Congress Chief Rajesh Kumar.
Voting concluded at 8 AM today, with a record participant turnout of 67.13% for the two-phase polls held on November 6th and 11th. While major exit polls suggested that NDA would win decisively, Tejashwi Yadav had previously stated that based on his internal surveys, the Mahagathbandhan would win decisively. Early votings tell a different story. With NDA making significant gains and early trend lines supporting the ruling alliance, Bihar seems likely headed for a historic mandate, which could dramatically shift the political landscape in the state for the next five years.
