Heavy rain showers had been observed in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in a shift in the weather pattern. According to the data obtained from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is going to be rain showers in different parts of Himachal Pradesh till 17th of June.
There have been moderate to heavy rains in different parts, with the maximum quantity being recorded in Kasauli, which came out to be 105 mm. Around 86.6 mm rains were received in Dharampur, whereas 43.5 mm rains were received in both Dhaulakuan and Bharmaur. Apart from these places, heavy rain showers were observed in Palampur, Solan, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Narkanda and Shimla.
There have been thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds prevailing in different parts of Himachal Pradesh. Yellow alert has been announced by IMD for the occurrence of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, where the gusts could go up to 30-50 kmph in some isolated places. Hailstorm has occurred in some parts of Himachal Pradesh like Kumarsain and Malana.
Such rainfall could cause fear among the travelers because of the hilly topography of the state. Landslide, rockfall, floods, and disruption in road connectivity due to the heavy rainfall in vulnerable areas have made the people wary of traveling, especially traveling through the vulnerable hilly areas where landslides can occur.
IMD’s forecast for the monsoon season was that the monsoon would continue in Himachal Pradesh even after the first showers of rain, with heavy rainfall in certain parts of the state between June 17-19.
It can be seen that as the monsoon season continues, it is possible that the authorities would be keeping a close watch on the weather conditions in vulnerable areas. Residents of these areas are advised to keep themselves informed about any warning issued regarding the weather and not to travel needlessly during the time of heavy rainfall.
Despite the fact that such heavy rainfall gives respite from the scorching heat in the area, it is necessary for people to be cautious because of the dangers involved.
