The BRICS Summit-18 will be conducted in New Delhi from September 12 to September 13. The extended countries of the BRICS leaders will be welcomed by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. It takes place under the aegis of diplomacy, and therefore the matters that will be discussed at this summit are going to include such areas as multilateralism, economic collaboration, energy and food security, health, resilience, and critical supply chains.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will become the BRICS Chair in 2026. One of the delegates which will attract much attention is going to be the President of China, Xi Jinping, who plans to pay a visit to India after seven years. The visit of the President of China will contribute to discussions between India and China.
Another distinguished delegate who will participate in the summit is the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. He is going to pay a visit to New Delhi on September 11, whereas the President of China, Xi Jinping, will pay a visit to India on September 12. Some security measures have already been undertaken by the city authorities prior to their arrival.
The leadership of other BRICS countries are also expected to participate in this summit as well. The enlarged BRICS group has now become one that consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Participation of all these countries gives the New Delhi summit a much wider participation base compared to the initial five-country BRICS composition.
This summit is expected to become a very important forum for discussion on global governance and cooperation between developing nations. Issues such as West Asian tensions, energy security, and future of international institutions will also have a bearing on the discussions that will be held.
India is expected to take advantage of its leadership position to press for more cooperation and role of developing nations in global decision-making. The presence of leaders like Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin makes this summit very important from the geopolitical point of view as well.
The time of the summit drawing near, the focus is now on the list of participating leaders, bilateral discussions, and what India wants from the two-day event.
