All the schools in Delhi would be shut down on Friday, September 11, 2026, before the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit which is going to be held in the national capital. The Directorate of Education (DoE) had issued the holiday in an official circular that was sent out on September 5.
This would affect all the government schools, aided government schools, and recognised private unaided schools working under the Directorate of Education. The offices under the DoE would also be on holiday on the said date.
It has been decided due to the extensive preparations required for the BRICS Summit. The BRICS Summit would take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi between September 11 and 13. Leaders and representatives from BRICS countries and their partner countries would attend the summit.
This holiday would help in dealing with the heavy traffic congestion, security restrictions, and travel of dignitaries. Thousands of security forces have been deployed by Delhi. Several secured routes have been developed by Delhi around hotels, airports, and other important places.
Students would get an extra two days off after the closure on Friday. It would be advisable for parents and children to consult with the school regarding any directives on classes, exams, and projects.
In another development, the residents of Delhi are advised to plan their travel well in advance in view of the BRICS summit taking place in the city. Some measures are being taken by the administration to ensure the smooth running of the summit.
BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi and the topics covered are likely to include global governance, food security, energy security, healthcare, disaster resilience, and critical supply chains.
