An elderly man aged 81 years from Mira Road has finally gotten some relief in a longstanding land issue in Maharashtra’s Mira-Bhayandar area after interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is an alumnus of B N School in Vadnagar, Gujarat. In a matter of days following the meeting, BJP MLA Narendra Mehta revealed his decision to give up the possession of the contentious land and the construction permissions on the land.

This is Asgar Ali Vora who approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8 to help resolve the issue. The man had stated that he had bought about 2,810 sq metres of land in Navghar, Bhayander East through a registered agreement in 1989. Vora accused Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions (company associated with Mehta) of usurping the land in question.

In reports, Vora claimed that he has been struggling with the issue of the property for almost 15 years now. He also accused the concerned parties of forging documents pertaining to the land in question. The case involves an FIR that has been registered back in 2015. These accusations should not be confused with a court finding

After the discussion between Vora and the Prime Minister, a meeting was held in Maharashtra’s Mantralaya on Tuesday. Some people attending the meeting included Vora, Mehta, Mira-Bhayander municipal commissioner Radha Binod Sharma and town planner Purushottam Shinde.

In the meeting, Mehta sent a letter to the town planning department wherein he said he was handing over the disputed land and was also giving up his permission of construction of the land. It is also reported that he informed the police commissioner that he had withdrawn the case that he had earlier lodged against Vora as a compromise was made between the two parties.

It has been claimed that the land was bought from Mervyn Fernandes in 2019. This has become a landmark in the dispute over the property which has been going on for quite a while.
