The opposition INDIA bloc has announced a “Save Democracy” march, with district-wise programmes scheduled all over the country from October 2 to 8, starting from October 2. The announcement comes as the Opposition continues to raise its pitch on changes to electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The decision was taken at a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders in New Delhi on September 30. Opposition leaders had also said that they plan to march towards the Election Commission on October 6.The alliance has been challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in several states. The opposition parties challenged certain elements of the exercise and raised questions about how it might influence voters. The Election Commission has said the revision of electoral rolls is carried out as per its constitutional and legal mandate.
