Three people have died while eight others have been injured in a building collapse in Seemapuri area of Delhi on Wednesday, October 7. According to reports, the dead include a 21-year-old pregnant lady and two kids. The unfortunate event occurred in New Seemapuri near 3:30 pm.

Those who have been identified among the dead are Gulafsa, 21 years old, a pregnant lady of about four months of pregnancy period, a 12-year-old girl of unknown name and one more kid who is about 18 months old. While, eight others were injured and brought to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in Tahirpur for their treatment.

After being informed of the building collapse, rescue squads of Delhi Fire Service, NDRF, police and other emergency services reached at the site. Eventually, 11 people including eight injured people were rescued from the collapsed building through the rescue operation. Narrow roads around the building were the main reasons behind the delay in the rescue process.

The building in question was a multi-storey residential building, and some parts of the houses adjacent to it had been affected due to the rubble. An investigation is currently underway to uncover the causes of the collapse. Initially, there were reports that cracks could have developed in the building because of tremors associated with an earthquake that hit Uttarakhand on Tuesday evening. Nevertheless, officials have not been able to establish the actual cause.

The occurrence has once again drawn attention to structural safety issues in the heavily populated areas of Delhi, especially where old buildings have seen further construction work being carried out on them. Rescue and investigations are ongoing as the authorities attempt to find out the status of the other buildings around the area.

The whole incident has shocked many families and residents.
