Mysuru Dasara 2026 gained a pan-Indian flavour with the participation of chief ministers from two states in the annual Vijayadashami procession. Organised on October 21, Wednesday, the program saw the presence of many politicians, artists, sports persons and thousands of other spectators who came to participate in and watch the cultural celebrations.
V. D. Satheesan, the chief minister of Kerala, and A. Revanth Reddy, the chief minister of Telangana, participated in the procession along with Karnataka chief minister D. K. Shivakumar. The leaders paid floral tributes to the Goddess Chamundeshwari who was seated inside the gold howdah sitting on top of the elephant Prashantha. It was a special occasion for the cultural celebration that is known for its heritage, folk art, and success in Karnataka.
Jumboo Savari, the main feature of the Mysuru Dasara, started from Mysuru Palace and went to Bannimantap. The decorated elephants, music, folk dances, and tableaux were some of the important features of the procession.
In addition to this, there were tableaux depicting 10 departments and agencies of the Union government. Tableaux representing three branches of the Indian Armed Forces also took part in the festivities, giving a national touch to this event and highlighting various aspects of India.
Kannada movie stars and famous sportsmen were also present during the procession on an open double-decker bus. This added more value to the celebration as the elements of entertainment, sports, and culture came together on one stage.
Mysuru Dasara is considered one of the biggest festivals in Karnataka, celebrated annually since 1610. The festival lasts for ten days and symbolises the victory of goddess Chamundeshwari over the demon Mahishasura.
The presence of chief ministers from other states underlined the expansion of the festival on a national scale. Being a perfect combination of cultural diversity and centuries-old royal traditions, Mysuru Dasara 2026 managed to highlight both.
