A recent shooting incident involving Bollywood star Tiger Shroff has once again raised the question of the involvement of organised crime in the Hindi film industry. The shooting incident took place in Mumbai on October 18, 2026, and has brought back memories of the time when the underworld factions resorted to threats and violence to pressure film stars.

As per various reports, three assailants riding motorcycles fired at Tiger Shroff’s car in the vicinity of Pushpa Narsee Park in the Vile Parle district of Mumbai. Shroff was lucky not to get injured in the shooting incident, while his driver and someone else who was with him got injured. An investigation has been initiated by the Mumbai police into the incident, and CCTV footage of the shooting incident was under consideration. There was also a post on social media linking the attack to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, although it was under investigation.

The shooting incident has brought back memories of Bollywood’s association with the underworld faction of Mumbai in the late 90s and early 2000s, when the underworld factions had been accused of getting involved in film production.

In recent years, better security protocols, funding issues and law enforcement have helped the film industry deal with some of these problems. However, threats against movie stars have raised issues concerning the safety of not only actors but filmmakers and other professionals.

The shooting case against Shroff is also an indication of the larger repercussions of organised crime when threats seem to be directed at individuals due to professional or personal connections. Investigation into the case and the involvement of organised criminals is underway.
