A passenger aircraft from Air India traveling from Phuket to Delhi was subjected to severe turbulence en route and ended up injuring several of its passengers because of a sudden drop in altitude in mid-air. The unforeseen occurrence of turbulence brought about panic among the fliers due to the suddenness of the intense shaking of the plane while in the process of reaching its destination.
As per reports, the airplane underwent severe turbulence which made the altitude of the aircraft change suddenly; thus, throwing objects as well as passengers inside the cabin. Injuries were sustained by a number of passengers who were given medical treatment upon landing safely in Delhi.
Air turbulence refers to the atmospheric condition of uneven air flow brought about by sudden changes in weather or wind direction. Even if airplanes are built to handle this situation, air turbulence could be dangerous to the passengers if they are not wearing seat belts when a sudden shaking happens.
Aviation experts have recommended many times before that passengers always wear their seat belts if they are seated in an airplane even without seeing the seat belt sign turned on.
It could be suggested that Air India will study the case and figure out what caused the sudden drop in height. The fact is that for the airline the safety of passengers is the top priority and the fact that it operates following the safety standards while working with weather conditions during the flight.
The case under discussion has confirmed once again the significance of advanced technology for the field of aviation in terms of weather forecast and safety standards. Pilots are trained to deal with turbulence based on weather forecast and air traffic control data.
However, despite the turbulence, the aircraft landed safely.
