Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly prevalent within the workplace, but according to a recent Glassdoor report, there is one fascinating contradiction regarding AI usage among younger employees. Gen Z employees are among those who are the most likely to be using AI in their work, but at the same time, they are worried about how the technology might affect their career prospects and job security.
According to Glassdoor, this comes amid the continuing revolution brought upon workplaces by artificial intelligence, which is now more and more often employed by companies for content creation, researching, analyzing data, performing customer service, and administrative functions. As has been noticed earlier, Gen Z and millennials have increasingly started to incorporate tools like ChatGPT in their routine.
However, for Gen Z, increased familiarity with the technology does not imply increased confidence in its future. The generation is starting its career in the era when many traditional entry-level jobs are either replaced by AI technology or assisted by it. This led to fears that some of the traditional entry-level jobs, which were used to obtain first professional experience, might become unavailable
That is an important difference considering that Generation Z is usually considered a generation of digital natives. They are quite comfortable with technologies and can try their luck with AI solutions and use them to enhance their productivity, complete everyday tasks and develop creative ideas. However, being at the beginning of their career path, Gen Z members are particularly vulnerable when it comes to the possible effect of AI on the labor market and the decrease of demand for entry-level jobs.
On the other hand, the trend is a real challenge for companies using AI in their work. They should pay special attention to the need to train young employees in using new technologies and explain how AI can help people work more effectively. The issue was raised by Glassdoor before and they have found out that AI can increase productivity, but it makes human connections more important in the office.
Finally, the attitude of Gen Z to AI demonstrates a real paradox in the workplace: the employees who are ready to use the newest technology in their work are afraid of the effect of this innovation.
