Excess rainfall has caused floods in some parts of the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, where the Mandakini river has overflowed and flooded the low lying areas of Chitrakoot town. This has caused much disruption in the daily lives of the inhabitants and damage to property.

The Mandakini river has seen an unusual increase in the water levels owing to excess rainfall in the area. It has been reported that the water level in the river was six metres above the normal level. This has caused many houses and shops to be submerged under the water while the roads and infrastructure have been badly damaged by the floodwater.

There have been major rescue efforts as a result of the flooding of the area. About 350 people have been rescued from the flooded regions of Satna district. The state disaster response force has been working for the rescue of people. Indian Air Force helicopters have also been used for the rescue mission.

 This flooding in Chitrakoot has also disrupted crucial infrastructure, including the breaking down of roads and bridges, with a few shops and homes left submerged. This flooding is a cause of worry for the people of this region as well as the pilgrims who visit this place for religious tourism purposes.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav paid a visit to the regions which are suffering due to the floods. He ordered officials to stay put in the flooded area and ensure relief work takes place. They have also been asked to evaluate the damages caused to the homes and other properties and provide the necessary help to the people living there.

There is still no respite from the weather as rain is forecasted in Madhya Pradesh and many other places of the country. Authorities are vigilant about the weather changes as more rain can increase the water levels in the rivers as well as the affected regions.
