New Delhi: Aspirants preparing for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 must be aware of the reservation category and seat allocation declared by the participating National Law Universities. It is suggested by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) that the candidates must look into the admission guidelines, intake, reservation policies, etc., of each of the universities individually before applying.

As per the announcement of CLAT 2027 by the Consortium, there may be a difference in the total intake and category-wise distribution among the participating NLUs. Also, universities have the right to alter their total intake and seat breakdown before the final allotment. There may be changes in the reservation policy according to the decision made by the respective government.

The reservation policy may comprise of categories such as Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and State-domicile categories, according to the respective university. Valid certificates from the competent authority must be provided by the candidates to avail themselves of the reserved category.

It should be noted that reservation in some cases differs among various National Law Universities because there are some NLUs which offer further domicile reservations and university-specific reservations. In the past, notifications regarding the seat-matrix have revealed that some NLUs make changes to the state-wise reservation categories and number of seats available in those categories.

According to the advice of the Consortium, the applicants are recommended to choose carefully their program and reservation category while filling out the application form because after submitting the application and paying the fee, the changes will not be possible for the program, category, and some other information in the application form.

CLAT 2027 exam will take place on December 6, 2026 from 2 PM to 4 PM in offline mode. The application window will be open until October 31, 2026.
