Restrictions have been imposed by Mumbai Traffic Police regarding the movement of heavy vehicles on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) during important days for immersion during the Ganesh Festival.

The notifications regarding restrictions have been issued by the Eastern Suburban Traffic Division on certain dates when Ganesh immersion is done. Movement of heavy vehicles would not be allowed on any of the carriageways of JVLR, whether north-bound or south-bound. The restriction applies on the fifth day of immersion of Ganpati on September 18, immersion of Gauri Ganpati on September 19, seventh day of immersion on September 20, and Anant Chaturdashi on September 25.

In the first case of restriction, the period is between 4 pm on September 18 and 5 am on September 19. There is another restriction from 4 pm on September 19 to 5 am on September 20. The final restriction on movement of heavy vehicles is from 10 am on September 25 till noon on September 26.

These restrictions are put in place so as to avoid traffic jams that might occur due to devotees and the Ganesh idols’ procession along this vital east-west road connection in Mumbai. This is done in order to prevent any form of obstruction in the way of emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines when performing the immersions.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai have commenced from September 14, 2026, with immersions being held on different days. The celebration concludes on September 25, Anant Chaturdashi day, which is one of the busiest immersion days in Mumbai.

Commuters using JVLR need to take into consideration the restricted hours mentioned above.
