“Those who helped or stood guard are just as accountable under the law,” said Chief Police Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal.

Blackmail and Emotional Abuse

The survivor told police that the two senior students recorded the assault on their mobile phones and used the video to threaten her. They warned her that if she went to the police, they would leak the footage online.

She also shared that during the assault, she began having trouble breathing and pleaded with the men to take her to a hospital. Her request was ignored. She later asked for an inhaler, which they finally brought from a nearby medical store—but the attack did not stop.

In her complaint, she added that the prime accused had once made her the secretary of a women’s organisation in the college. Looking back, she believes this was a way to gain her trust and later exploit that relationship.

The young woman filed her complaint at the Kasba Police Station, and police acted quickly. All three accused were arrested the next day.
