Dheeraj Kumar Dies at 79: Bollywood Mourns the Legend.

The Indian film and television industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor, director, and producer Dheeraj Kumar, who passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday. He died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted for acute pneumonia.

According to close family friend Ajay Shukla, Kumar had been unwell since the weekend and was admitted to the ICU due to complications arising from fever, cold, and cough. “He passed away this morning at 11:00 AM due to pneumonia.” Given his age and deteriorating health, he was shifted to the ICU shortly after being admitted.

Dheeraj Kumar’s Legacy in Cinema and Television

Born in 1946, Dheeraj Kumar built a diverse career in Hindi and Punjabi films, rising to fame with roles in popular movies like Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974), where he starred alongside Manoj Kumar. He was appreciated for his powerful screen presence and versatility as an actor.

In later years, he transitioned to television, becoming a celebrated producer. Through his production company Creative Eye Ltd., Kumar gave Indian audiences enduring shows like Om Namah Shivay, Adalat, and Shree Ganesh. His contribution to mythological and courtroom drama genres on Indian TV remains unmatched.

Final Moments and Funeral

Dheeraj Kumar’s family confirmed the sad news in an official statement, saying:

“With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of veteran actor, producer and director and beloved human being Dheeraj Kumar on Tuesday, 15th July 2025, around 12 noon, surrounded by family.”

The statement also remembered him as “a true gentleman, a mentor, and a father figure to many in the industry.” His family expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received and added that his last rites will be held at Pawan Hans Crematorium on Wednesday.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from Bollywood celebrities, television personalities, and long-time collaborators who remembered him as a generous mentor and a pillar of the industry.
