PM Modi: India’s Next Big Goal is to Be Self-Reliant in Technology

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a clear vision for the country’s future — making India self-reliant in technology. Speaking in Bengaluru, he launched and laid the foundation for metro projects worth ₹22,800 crore, describing them as a big step towards better infrastructure and a more connected city.

Prime Minister Modi was clear that India’s path of Viksit Bharat (developed India) will align with its Digital India mission. Furthermore, he highlighted that India’s economy is on track to be the world’s 4th largest economy (after IMF) by 2025 and the 3rd largest economy by 2027-28. In sum, India is not merely catching-up because it is the fastest growing major economy; India also has ambitions to lead. Modi said India has already earned global respect in terms of its tech talent and innovations, but it needs to do more work on the company side to channel domestic solutions.“Our next big priority should be becoming self-reliant in technology,” he said, urging the development of zero defect, zero effect products that are both world-class and environmentally responsible.

He also announced a ₹1 lakh crore RDI Scheme for research and development of the sunrise sectors such as artificial intelligence, clean energy and electronics manufacturing. Modi feels that the country can produce products that fulfil the needs of India and are in the best category in the world with initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, and Operation Sindoor.

India’s growing economic strength, emphasis on innovation, and quick digitalisation means that the future is not just being part of the world economy but being a global leader and only influencing it.
