New Delhi, 4 October 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump in the ongoing peace process in Gaza on Saturday, calling the recent news a “decisive step” towards stopping months of bloodshed in the enclave.
Modi’s comments came after reports suggested there could be an imminent hostage release by Hamas as part of negotiations led by the U.S. and regional negotiators. The Prime Minister said any such development could be crucial to restoring peace and stability in an area that has seen the deaths of thousands of civilians since the flare-up in conflict last year.
“India welcomes the constructive role being played by President Trump in navigating the Gaza peace process. The indicators of progress, and particularly the reported preparedness to release Israeli hostages, are important steps toward regional stability,” Modi said in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
India’s Call for Dialogue and Diplomacy
India has continuously called for an end to violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi reiterated this position during his remarks, addressing the need for humanitarian aid and protection for civilians and long-term measures to ensure violence does not return.
“The nation of India is wholly supportive of every action focused on breaking the cycle of violence. Lasting peace can only come through confidence-building, dialogue, and respect for human dignity,” he said.
The Trump Effect
President Trump has escalated America’s involvement in negotiations over Gaza in recent weeks by working with partners in the Middle East to break the impasse in discussions. Analysts say this direct involvement has provided some momentum to a process that was bogged down by continued rocket fire from Gaza and retaliation from Israel.
The reported advancement in the negotiations is part of a larger framework that includes humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, safeguards for Israel’s security, and steps for the reconstruction of Gazan infrastructure.
India’s Perspective
For New Delhi, peace in the Middle East is not just a principled position, but also a concern for strategic stability and economic viability. India maintains strong connections with both the state of Israel and the Arab world as millions of Indian Expats live in the Gulf and critical global trading routes navigate through that area.
The endorsement of Trump should reinforce Modi’s support of a multilateral peace paradigm, while also strengthening India’s role as a country that advocates for overall stability in the region.
As things develop, global attention will remain fixed on Gaza, where the release of hostages might just represent the first real breakthrough in years of stalled peace initiatives.
