Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday reiterated that the APU, the state’s first government-owned university, remains a top priority, ensuring sustained progress in infrastructure expansion, academic excellence, and institutional strengthening. According to CM, the university became operational. Appointment of its first vice chancellor, Professor Tomo Riba. The academic section started in the same year. The first batch has already graduated.
CM stated that infrastructure development would continue to receive priority and be entrusted to the Education Minister, who would be personally responsible for steering the university’s growth. He said the timing of the consultation was crucial with the state budget approaching.
Highlighting concerns over space constraints, the chief minister observed that the university’s existing land, approximately 100 acres, may prove inadequate to support its long-term expansion and future academic growth.
On Boarder education reforms, he said, Arunachal Pradesh is undergoing a major transformation aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Which the state aims to fully implement this by 2030.
Nowadays, Arunachal University runs 11 academic departments and offers PHD programs in disciplines, the subjects they include are Commerce, Economics, Education, Social work, and Travel studies.
Linking education to the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”, the chief minister said that development should reach every state, district, and village and that today’s students will play a key role in achieving this goal.
Describing Arunachal Pradesh as a resource-rich state with great potential, Khandu said its youth would become the driving force by 2047. He also shared that discussions are underway for student and faculty exchange programs with Japan, which would create new global learning opportunities.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed Academic Block ‘A’ at the university campus. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kento, legislators, district officials, faculty members, and officials of Arunachal Pradesh University.
