India started Day 15 of the 2026 Asian Games on a brilliant note with the help of Kumkum Mohod and Pranavi Urs, who won gold medals in archery and golf events respectively.
In women’s individual recurve archery event, 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod made history. The young lady won the gold medal against South Korean Oh Yejin in a shoot-off. In the finals, both the athletes ended up with equal scores of 5-5 each, which eventually led to the deciding shoot-off, where Kumkum emerged as the winner. This gold medal win makes Kumkum the first Indian woman to have won individual recurve gold at the Asian Games. Kumkum’s triumph ensures an Olympic qualification for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Kumkum has already made a significant contribution to India’s medal tally by winning medals in the team events.
In the game of golf, Pranavi Urs scripted yet another historic feat by bagging the women’s individual gold medal. She led the final round to be the first Indian female golfer to clinch a gold medal in the individual category in the Asian Games. India won a silver medal in the women’s team golf category. Other than Pranavi Urs, Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok were part of the women’s team.
The other prominent sport which was in focus in India’s campaign on the final day was wrestling. Antim Panghal qualified for the quarterfinals of the women’s 53kg category after defeating Shugyla Omirbek of Kazakhstan 9-0. This was another bright spark for India’s wrestling medal aspirations in the latter part of the event.
Cricket, Hockey and Wrestling continued to be in focus in India’s campaign in the final day of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
