The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Indian National Congress of endorsing controversial slogans in the run-up to the opposition party’s big “vote theft” protest rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on December 14, 2025.
The visuals distributed by the news agencies show some Congress supporters chanting against the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it was about to end. Senior BJP leaders described these slogans as provocative and politically motivated with the forthcoming election cycle.
BJP Claims: It’s More Than Just a Rally
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla went on to say that the Congress protest is not a pure-and-simple agitation on voter issues, such as SIR of electoral rolls, but an attempt to demoralise Prime Minister Modi and his leadership. He alleged that speeches by their leaders in the past reflect a larger game to weaken public support for the ruling party.
Another BJP leader, Sambit Patra, called on the public to reject the use of derogatory remarks against national leaders and underlined that such an action was unlikely to go down well with the electorate. He also questioned the timing and motives behind Congress’s massive mobilisation for the rally.
Congress Rebuffs BJP Charges
In response, Congress leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Syed Nasir Hussain, also dubbed BJP’s allegations as “fake news” and politically motivated misinformation. They reiterated that the rally was basically to protest against the alleged electoral discrepancies and reforms in the voter list processes and not personal attacks.
The rally at Congress emphasised the increasing strife of the party’s campaign against “vote chori”—a slogan opposition leaders have much used during protests in recent months to allege irregularities in registration and election administration.
