Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar and featuring stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is a crime thriller which delves deep into the intricacies involved in the relationship between law, justice and personal morality. The film will release on September 18, 2026 and centers around two senior police officers who have opposing views about justice.

DCP Ajooni Kohli, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor Khan, gets assigned with the task of investigating the encounter between DCP Raman Kumar, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Raman along with his team decides to act against the four men charged for their role in a horrendous crime, and thus the film gets public reaction. The investigation conducted by Ajooni starts raising various queries.

One of the highlights of this film is definitely the performances of the two lead actors. Prithviraj gives his full potential and acts with intensity in his character, Raman Kumar. He portrays the police officer who is very convinced about his methods of justice. The performances of Prithviraj are remarkable because he portrays the police officer not as a villain or a hero.

As for Ajooni, she is portrayed by Kareena Kapoor Khan as an elegant and determined officer committed to going by the book. It is necessary to note that the actress plays the role of a foil for Raman to be able to look at two perspectives of justice from one film. Despite the negative criticism about her performance, it becomes an important part of the central conflict.

Meghna Gulzar as director of the film, along with writers Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani, creates a story that is focused on the moral problem but not the criminal one. The movie avoids providing simple solutions and makes people think about the difference between an action and due process.

Summing up, Daayra is the mix of serious subject matter with great lead performances and complicated moral story. Although some people will have their opinion about the film, it is definitely worth being discussed because of its central conflict.
