There was an eventful start to Sunday in Delhi as the “Namo Run” marathon, which aims to promote fitness and road safety, took place, bringing together thousands of runners at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar. Addressing the audience at Namo Run, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva noted that the Central government has approved ₹3,794 crores to support sports in the year 2025, which he attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to build a sports ecosystem in the nation. Sachdeva remarked that events like Namo Run not only support fitness but also inspire discipline and practice. He denoted that involving children with such involvement would lead them to believe it is tremendously good for the nation.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the marathon and hailed it as being a unique opportunity to combine sport with public awareness. The Chief Minister urged that the two-part initiative, combining road safety with sports competitions, leads to a greater awareness for a safer Delhi City. Gupta clarified that both fields, sport and road safety, require awareness and discipline, saying their participation competes for attention, and form and lane-following is prudent. Drawing an analogy that explains that both activities are risky because attention is drawn away and one may reach for distractions such as mobile phones.
In her speech, the Chief Minister lauded the youth participants and encouraged all young people to adopt good habits in fitness, as well as safe habits of mobility on the road. The Chief Minister stated that strength, skill, and presence of mind matter not only in sports but also while driving or even walking when going about their business. Her remarks reinforced the overall theme of the event, which was that a fit society is a safe society.
The “Namo Run” marathon was organized as a part of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025, meant to promote fitness as well as to promote awareness of road norms among Delhi residents. The event featured student adolescent groups, athletic groups, and all ages of fitness enthusiasts and runners that supported the growing commitment of Delhiites to make fitness, discipline, and proper civics a habit.
