Dhruv Rathee Critiques Dhurandhar Teaser

Dhruv Rathee Critiques Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Teaser, Draws a Parallel to ISIS Footage

The teaser for Aditya Dhar’s forthcoming spy thriller, Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, has initiated an uproar on social media. Fans appreciate the film’s dark premise and high-octane action. However, content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee vehemently rebuked the graphic material in the trailer, even labelling it as comparable to horrifying ISIS footage of people being beheaded.

Dhruv Rathee Labels the Trailer “Extreme and Unnecessary”

Dhruv Rathee reacted on X (formerly Twitter) just after the teaser was out. Rathee expressed his concern about the excessive gore, stating Aditya Dhar has “crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood.”

According to Rathee, the clips shown in the teaser regarding torture and blood shed and brutality are the same as footage of ISIS insurgents killing people. He further questioned the intent behind showing such images and claimed it was merely a “lust for money,” and that whatever it was, it was pushing the filmmaker to show such horrible displays of violence to potentially desensitise the youth.

What Is in the Trailer That Caused This Controversy?

Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh as an intelligence agent conducting dangerous missions in Pakistan. Two graphic scenes from the trailer have gained traction on social media for their intense, unfiltered brutality. The scenes include:

Arjun Rampal as an ISI Major, who is shown skinning someone alive and Akshaye Khanna as a feared Lahore gangster, who is shown killing someone by crushing his head with a rock on screen.

The clips sparked division pretty quickly—some thought it was too much, while others felt it was right for the serious subject of a movie about morally ambiguous characters and serious subject matters.

Fans Weigh in on the Raw, Dark Aesthetic

Regardless of the potential controversy, a huge section of those on social media welcomed the trailer’s brutish intensity and represented an entirely out-there perspective for the trailer. Many praised the energising background score, the moody visuals, and the film’s dark context.

One viewer said, “The energy, the darkness, the atmosphere – it feels like a new chapter in Indian music and filmmaking.”

Another asked the CBFC not to blur or cut anything and to let the theatrical version be “exactly like the trailer”.
