OpenAI has rolled out a fresh update for ChatGPT AI, making the new GPT-5 model warmer and friendlier. The change comes after users felt the original GPT-5 launch was too formal and lacked the personal touch that earlier versions of ChatGPT had.
According to OpenAI, the improved ChatGPT app is designed to sound more approachable, while still keeping the same intelligence and reasoning power. Subtle updates like phrases such as “Good question” or “Great start” have been added to make the experience more natural, but the company insists that GPT-5 does not show extra flattery or “sycophancy” compared to before.
Why OpenAI Changed GPT-5
When OpenAI released GPT-5, there was much excitement because CEO Sam Altman had created a large amount of buzz. However, when users began to use it, many users felt that ChatGPT AI responses felt shorter and less engaging and did not have the emotional proximity of earlier language models.
This was a sharp contrast to what happened with GPT-4o, which some users felt was “too agreeable.” With GPT-5, the opposite happened — it seemed too dry. This feedback quickly spread across the ChatGPT app community, pushing OpenAI to act fast.
User Backlash and Fixes
Another reason for the backlash was OpenAI’s decision to remove older AI models from ChatGPT, which disrupted workflows and reduced usage limits for ChatGPT Plus users paying $20 a month. Many threatened to cancel their subscriptions, forcing OpenAI to respond.
The company soon raised usage limits for GPT-5 Thinking and also brought back the model picker in the ChatGPT app, giving users more control over which version of AI ChatGPT they want to use.
What’s New in ChatGPT AI Personalization
Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, explained that users can customize the AI’s personality using Custom Instructions.He also suggested new tools that will make ChatGPT AI more versatile. Right now, paid users can also choose from personalities like Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd but this is not yet available for the free version of the ChatGPT app.

The latest changes show how closely OpenAI listens to its community.
