OpenAI releases ChatGPT-5

OpenAI Releases ChatGPT-5: Smarter, Faster, and “PhD-Level” AI

OpenAI announces ChatGPT-5, the latest edition of its popular AI chatbot with added intelligence, faster response times, and PhD-level knowledge in many areas. The announcement was made by OpenAI‘s CEO Sam Altman, stating that GPT-5 was “the best AI model we have released to date.”

“This kind of AI model would have been unimaginable in the past,” said Sam Altman during the official launch.

A Leap Forward in AI Capabilities

OpenAI GPT-5 is being praised for its stronger reasoning abilities, more accurate responses, and fewer hallucinations—referring to the tendency of AI to provide made-up information. It is also expected to be less deceptive and more honest in its answers.

According to Altman, ChatGPT-5 feels much more human in its interactions. “GPT-3 felt like a high school student, GPT-4 was more like a college student, but GPT-5 feels like you’re talking to a real expert,” he explained.

Focus on Coders and Developers

OpenAI is targeting developers with GPT-5 by promoting its ability to write complete software code. With its enhanced reasoning skills and logic, GPT-5 is positioned as a strong assistant for programmers.

This move follows a growing trend among AI companies, with Anthropic’s Claude Code and Elon Musk’s Grok also competing for dominance in the coding assistant market.

Is GPT-5 Really Revolutionary?

While OpenAI Sam Altman ChatGPT 5 has been introduced with much hype, some experts are urging caution. AI ethics professor Carissa Véliz noted that while GPT-5 is impressive, it still only mimics human reasoning and may not offer true human-level understanding.

“There’s a lot of marketing involved, and many systems are still not profitable,” she said.

Concerns Over Regulation and Content Ownership

Gaia Marcus from the Ada Lovelace Institute talked about the need for stricter regulation on AI. The power of AI models (for example GPT-5), is indicative of how rapidly the governance models are lagging.

Grant Farhall, Chief Product Officer of Getty Images, raised a similar concern regarding the use of creative content in AI training. “As AI generated content becomes more and more realistic, we need to make sure that creators are protected and compensated fairly,” he said.
