Tejashwi Yadav won the Raghopur assembly constituency by a margin of over 14,500 votes against the BJP’s Satish Kumar. However, although the final margin may seem safe, it does not encompass the swings and dramatic and tense moments that were a part of the polling day path for the RJD leader.
The chief ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan began the Friday with confidence, facing the public with a declaration that a political shift was coming. His early optimism seemed grounded when the first trends showed him in a leading position. In the first 20 minutes of counting, Pvalue Track counted Tejashwi’s lead at 893 votes, which helped establish the trend of a victory many expected would be easy.
However, things quickly became unpredictable. Approximately by 11 a.m.the tide turned. Satish Kumar of the BJP now surged past Tejashwi to reverse the lead and put the RJD heavyweight behind by 1,273 votes. The turn in the count sent shockwaves through RJD supporters, as a decisive lead was expected after an early portion Census of the lead.
The ups and downs of tallies didn’t stop there. Tejashwi managed to come back into the race at one point with a narrow lead again of 219 votes, only for the numbers to swing back in favor of the BJP candidate. By early afternoon, Election Commission of India (ECI) data showed Tejashwi now trailing by 2,288 votes, making the contest one of the closest and most unpredictable battles of the day.
Despite the roller coaster ride, Tejashwi took the lead back in the final rounds and stretched out his margin of lead to over 14,500 votes. His win in Raghopur not only reaffirms his grip on the constituency but also exhibited his ability to absorb the pressure of one of the wildest counting days of the election.
