Trump Amplifies Modi’s Backing for Gaza Peace Roadmap

Washington/New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has showcased support for his recently unveiled Gaza peace plan from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by resharing Modi’s statement on Truth Social with no comments or changes whatsoever.

In his statement, Modi welcomed Trump’s “comprehensive plan” to address the ongoing conflict, describing it as “a viable pathway to sustainable peace, security and development for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the wider West Asian region.” He encouraged all parties to support the plan, while asserting India’s support of Washington’s diplomatic effort.

The White House announced it afterwards a 20-prong framework to stop the violence in Gaza. The plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages for prisoners, a phased withdraw of Israeli forces, disarming Hamas, and transitional administration under international mediation.

Trump announced the proposal immediately after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office. Netanyahu called Trump a “true friend of Israel” but was “cautious” about elements containing the reforms to Palestinian governance and long-term viability of Palestinian statehood.

Hamas has said it will consult with its officials and other Palestinian groups before it responds formally. The US proposal calls for Hamas to give up its weapons in exchange for a cessation of hostilities, humanitarian relief, and a Gaza reconstruction package.

As international support develops, Trump said Hamas will have “three or four days” to respond, emphasizing that if the plan does not get adopted, Israel would continue to get the “full backing” of the United States.

For Trump, the plan is the boldest diplomatic risk his administration has taken in addressing one of the world’s longest and most brutal conflicts. With India’s support now in a published statement, Washington is hoping that momentum will build about what Trump believes is “the closest we’ve been in decades to a real peace.”
