It should be emphasized that there were many great achievements of athletes in winter sports such as alpine skiing, speed skating, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and luge during the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 in winter sports on February 12.
However, it is necessary to note that there were many excellent results provided by winter sport athletes from such countries as Italy, Sweden, Australia and other winter sports nations.Firstly, Federica Brignone was a winner in women’s alpine skiing in Super-G with the result 1:23.41, which is better than results of Romane Miradoli (France) and Cornelia Hütter (Austria). It should be mentioned that the result obtained by Federica is very good since she could overcome her injuries and continue to compete.
Secondly, the second achievement is that Italy won in the discipline of women’s speed skating. Francesca Lollobrigida got the result 6:46.17 in 5,000 meters and won in this discipline with the gold medal, beating Merel Conijn (Netherlands) just by 0.06 seconds.
Sweden won the women’s 10km freestyle in cross-country skiing as Frida Karlsson clinched the gold medal in 22:49.2 while her compatriot Ebba Andersson came second. American skier Jessie Diggins managed to grab the bronze medal in the race.
An additional gold was brought to Australia by Cooper Woods who triumphed in the men’s moguls with the same score as Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury – 83.71. Japan’s Ikuma Horishima took the bronze in the discipline.
The other gold medal was won again by Germany in the luge relay with the Austrian team winning the silver medal and the Italians getting the bronze medal.
It helped to enhance the reputation of Italy as one of the leading participating countries in the Olympic games. It seemed that the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics were the most successful Winter Olympics for Italy where the host nation had won 30 medals comprising 10 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
