Delhi: Heavy rains lashed Delhi-NCR area once again on Thursday. India Meteorological
Department (IMD) issued orange alert in the wake of this heavy rainfall. Orange alert is
meant to warn about the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms
and strong wind and advise citizens to be cautious and not venture out unnecessarily.
This persistent rainfall has brought much-needed respite from the hot and scorching summer
weather but at the same time, it has caused inconvenience to many people living in the
National Capital Region due to waterlogging on the roads and traffic jams on main roads
during rush hour.
As per the report of the IMD, the weather is influenced by the monsoon activity in north India.
Intermittent rains are forecast through the day and isolated places will receive heavy rainfall
with lightning and gusty winds.
People have been directed to keep themselves informed about the weather alerts and avoid
roads submerged under water as well as be careful around waterlogged places and
dilapidated buildings.
However, despite the beneficial effects of the rain on air pollution levels and cooling of the
city temperatures, scientists have warned that heavy rains for an extended period of time
might pose threats to the urban floodings, traffic congestion and even destruction of
infrastructure. Therefore, people are expected to plan their journeys in accordance with
safety instructions of local officials.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department is constantly tracking the developing
weather situation and asked citizens to stay on alert until the conditions get better. The
orange warning alert is intended to make people aware that rain might cause certain
difficulties and requires certain caution from them during the whole day.
