There were areas in Delhi which received heavy rainfall on Sunday, thereby giving some relief from the humid spell, but at the same time causing waterlogging and traffic problems in several areas of the national capital city. There is a Yellow Alert in place by the IMD for the next 24 hours, as there would be light to moderate rainfall, besides thunderstorm and strong winds in the coming hours. People have been advised to be cautious while traveling during such weather conditions.
There were areas receiving heavy rainfall, including Central, South, and East Delhi, thereby making it difficult for people to travel in their vehicles. There was waterlogging in several areas and road junctions due to which it was difficult for the vehicles to pass.
As per the IMD, the Yellow Alert denotes the likelihood of weather-related problems that might create disturbances in the normal functioning of life but will not pose any major danger, provided all precautions are taken on time. It has been forecasted that light showers, along with lightning and winds up to 40-50 kmph, are likely to take place in Delhi and nearby regions for the next day.
It is pertinent to mention here that the rains have caused a decrease in the temperature in daytime, which has provided some sort of respite from the hot weather prevailing in the capital city for the past few days. However, high humidity will still persist due to weather conditions.
Residents have been asked to remain informed about the weather forecast issued by the government, not seek refuge under trees during storms, and be cautious while driving on wet roads. Travelers have been warned about the likely disruption in travel owing to the possibility of traffic jams as well as waterlogging in low-lying areas.
As the monsoon still prevails over northern India, the IMD has reported that Delhi is likely to witness periodic rain in the coming days. The weather will lead to a dip in temperatures; however, citizens have been told to be prepared for disruptions owing to the continuous rain during monsoon season.
