In the wake of protests staged by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in the national capital, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant stated on Thursday that he would intervene in case the Supreme Court Metro Station remained closed past lunchtime due to disruptions that have been reported in regard to lawyers, litigants, and other personnel working at the Supreme Court of India.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Chief Justice by the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Vikas Singh. He requested the permission for individuals with Supreme Court entry passes and Registry personnel to access the station after going through their due security checks. He stated that the metro station was causing considerable inconvenience to people attending the court.
In response to the request, the CJI Surya Kant stated that the Supreme Court administration had already approached DMRC and other concerned authorities in regard to the matter and that they were working out ways to solve the problem. He added that he himself would intervene in case the matter remained unresolved by lunchtime.
It is important to add that the Chief Justice pointed out that no judicial actions should be taken against anyone due to the inability to attend court proceedings caused by the problems in transport services.
Supreme Court metro station is one of the sixteen metro stations in Delhi, which was temporarily shut down due to security reasons as a result of CJP agitation and monsoon session of the Parliament. While these measures helped to keep law and order in central Delhi, many daily travelers were inconvenienced by them.
These measures have been taken in connection with CJP agitation, which brings together numerous people in Delhi and requires special security measures in many parts of the capital.
