In an attempt by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to enforce its food safety norms, the agency has imposed a ban on the sale of a supplement product and put an end to the activities of a water manufacturing firm due to non-compliance with food safety standards. This move aims at ensuring that food and beverages firms comply with FSSAI regulations.
Based on observations made through inspection and regulatory review, the FSSAI has decided to suspend the activities of the company manufacturing bottled water and prohibit the sales of the company’s supplementary product. The authority has done this in order to ensure that all aspects of food safety standards are complied with.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India often carries out inspections and tests samples of food products in several areas such as drinking water, nutritional supplements among others. It is expected of the companies operating in these sectors to conform to the required quality standards.
Suspended water company is one of the measures aimed at ensuring quality control in the packaging water sector because of the growth experienced in this sector owing to the rise in consumer demand. Water package manufacturers are required to be licensed and comply with the standards of hygiene and testing of their products for safety.
Banning of the supplement product is another indication of the increasing surveillance within the health and wellness sector. Given the rising consumer demands for vitamins, proteins, and other supplements, there has been an increase in monitoring the health sector so as to protect consumers against misrepresentations and contamination.
FSSAI has urged food business operators to strictly adhere to regulatory measures. Enforcing action will still be taken against any company found not in compliance with food safety regulations.
It has been recommended that consumers buy food products and supplements from licensed companies and check their FSSAI certifications. The latest move reiterates the need for quality and regulatory compliance within India’s growing market of food and nutrition products.
