DK Shivakumar Defends Bengaluru Infrastructure Amid Criticism, Slams Kumaraswamy’s Remarks

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has firmly rejected criticism over the city’s woes concerning infrastructure and stated that there are no such threats of companies leaving Bengaluru and that it was politically motivated.

“As the Bengaluru Development Minister, I can guarantee you that the state government is committed to upgrading urban infrastructure and traffic management,” said Shivakumar. Referring to claims that poor road and potholes in the city were causing investors to divert to other cities, he said those were ‘over statements’ made to defame the city’s resounding reputation in terms of technology and innovation sectors.

Shivakumar also took umbrage to Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who called out a section of the media, for taking advantage of potholes around Bengaluru’s roads and claiming that the condition of roads was discouraging investors from Bengaluru. “Bengaluru is still the leading hub of technology and innovation in all of India, and companies are not leaving Bengaluru, in fact, the investment is increasing,” he stated.

The deputy chief minister said the government had brought up plans for large-scale upgrade of roads, drainage upgradation, and traffic decongestion measures in order to resolve decades-acre longstanding civic infrastructure issues, and mentioned that citizens could stay assured that the existing infrastructure and upcoming projects using the Bengaluru blueprint, were all there to resolve infrastructural constraints, and development was forthcoming.

As the criticism continues to mount, Shivakumar stated again that the global reputation of Bengaluru as India’s “Silicon Valley” remains intact and that personal attacks in politics over civic issues do not benefit residents or businesses.
