Car Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort Sends Shockwaves Through Capital
New Delhi, November 10, 2025:
A powerful explosion shook the vicinity of Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of the historic monument, close to the Red Fort Metro Station — one of the most secure zones in the capital.
According to initial reports, the explosion occurred around 6:55 PM, prompting multiple distress calls to the Delhi Fire Services. The blast was so intense that nearby streetlights were shattered, and three adjacent vehicles caught fire.
Fire tenders and emergency units were immediately dispatched — seven fire engines and fifteen CAT ambulances reached the site within minutes.
Officials have confirmed one fatality, while several others sustained burn and impact injuries. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Security on High Alert
The Delhi Police, along with forensic experts and bomb disposal squads, quickly cordoned off the entire area. Security agencies have raised an “alert level” across the capital. The National Security Guard (NSG) has reportedly been informed and may assist in forensic examination.
Link to Earlier Explosive Seizure?
The explosion came just hours after Delhi Police uncovered an interstate explosives racket, seizing over 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate and other volatile materials. Investigators are now probing whether the Red Fort blast is connected to this cache — an alarming possibility that points to a larger conspiracy.
Preliminary Observations
While the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, authorities suspect an incendiary device or fuel ignition. No terror outfit has claimed responsibility so far, but officials are not ruling out the possibility of terror-related activity given the strategic importance of the Red Fort area — a national heritage site and Independence Day address venue.
The blast site remains sealed as forensic teams collect evidence from the vehicle debris. Security has been ramped up across Old Delhi, particularly around Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, and Daryaganj.
Traffic movement around Red Fort and the adjoining metro station has been suspended temporarily.
Police and intelligence agencies are expected to brief the media after preliminary findings. Senior officials from the Home Ministry have been apprised of the situation.
