The campaign for DUSU elections of Delhi University made its way on Friday with voting in the central panel for the university being completed, while some colleges have declared their result, wherein the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) emerged victorious in many of the individual college elections.
In Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bharati College, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning) and Dr BR Ambedkar College, Shivaji College, ABVP candidates won all the key posts, as reported on Friday. All the posts went to the ABVP candidates in SRCC, while all the eight posts went to them in Bharati College.
There are different college-level elections apart from the central election for DUSU, which comprise four posts, namely, President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. The voting for these posts was held across Delhi University on September 18. While day-college students were voting from 8:30 am to 1 pm, evening-college students were casting their votes from 3 pm to 7:30 pm.
A turnout of 40.46 per cent was registered during the voting, which was based on the voting records submitted from 52 polling booths. Twenty candidates contested for the four central positions. Panels from ABVP and NSUI contested in the main battle, as did the AISA-SFI team and some independents.
Counting for the central DUSU votes took place after the polling process ended and the vote boxes were taken under security cover to the counting centre at North Campus. Counting for the four central posts started on September 19.
Some of the issues that were highlighted during the election campaigning of 2026 DUSU elections included hostel availability, safety of the campus, infrastructure development, placements, examinations, and student welfare. Both of the major student bodies considered accommodation and student welfare as important areas of their campaigning.
Now that the results from the college level are starting to come in and the counting process for the central panel has begun, all eyes are on the DUSU result.
