Amitabh Bachchan’s Cyber Fraud Caller Tune Removed from Today: Here’s Why

The famous Amitabh Bachchan cyber fraud caller tune that many of us have heard countless times while making phone calls is finally being removed starting today. The tune, which was part of a major government campaign to spread cybercrime awareness across India, will no longer play before calls.

Why Was the Caller Tune Introduced?

Launched by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Home Ministry, the Amitabh Bachchan caller tune was meant to warn people about India cyber fraud and protect them from growing digital scams. The idea was to reach millions quickly by using telecom networks to spread the message.

But while the awareness initiative had good intentions, over time, it started bothering people—especially when it played during emergency calls, causing unnecessary delays. Many users felt frustrated because they couldn’t immediately connect during urgent situations.

Campaign Comes to a Close

Sources told The First Critic that the cyber fraud caller tune has now officially run its course.

“The campaign has ended, so the caller tune will be removed from today,” a source close to the matter confirmed.

Telecom operators across the country have started rolling out the changes.

Public Complaints and Social Media Trolls

In recent months, the Amitabh Bachchan news surrounding the caller tune picked up when people started openly criticizing the tune on social media.

On Monday, Amitabh Bachchan posted a simple message on his social media:
“Ji haan huzoor, main bhi ek prashansak hoon. Toh??” (Yes sir, I’m a fan too. So what?)

A social media user took a playful dig at him:
“Toh phone pe bolna band kro bhay” (So stop saying it on the phone).

Bachchan responded in his signature style:
“Sarkar ko bolo bhai, unhone jo kaha humne kar diya” (Tell the government, I just did what they asked me to do).

Another person tried to mock his age, but the actor clapped back with class:
“Ek din bhagwan na karein who jaldi aaye, ap bhi sathiya jaayenge. Parantu humarein yaha kahawat hai – jo satha, who patha” (God forbid that day comes soon, you too will grow old. But where I come from, we say: with age comes wisdom).

Not the First Time

Interestingly, this isn’t the first caller tune backlash that Amitabh Bachchan has faced. Remember the COVID-19 caller tune? That one also featured his voice giving safety instructions. Back then, a public interest litigation was even filed in Delhi High Court asking for the tune to be removed, especially after Bachchan and his family tested positive for the virus.

What’s Next for Cybercrime Awareness?

Now that the caller tune removal is happening, people are curious about what the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) will do next to keep spreading cyber fraud awareness. While the government campaign through the caller tune is ending, cyber fraud in India is still rising. Staying alert and informed is as important as ever.
