Tensions have risen in Bihar as a protest erupted into violence, resulting in three individuals suffering from bullet wounds in a fight between the protesters and the police. This development took place amid demonstrations on account of discrepancies in the distribution of residential certificates, which are important documents required by people to apply for government jobs and admission in institutions.
As per sources, many protesters had gathered near the government office demanding the issuance of their residential certificates. However, the situation took an ugly turn when they tried to enter restricted zones, following which the police interfered. In the midst of the growing tension, news of shooting emerged, injuring three people.
One of the victims has said that he had come to the office for his residential certificate and was not part of any protests. “I had come for my certificate, but now I am being shot at,” one of the injured is reported to have said while getting treated in a hospital.
Police authorities have said that the security forces were called to ensure law and order because of the aggression of the protesting crowd and destruction of public property and breaching of security barriers. The investigation is underway to establish the facts and find out those who committed violent acts.
The injured people were quickly taken to the nearest hospitals where they are under medical treatment and are in a stable condition. It was stated that there would be a thorough inquiry and necessary steps will be taken according to the results of it.
The incident provoked negative reactions from the political opposition which accused the state government of being unable to resolve the situation peacefully and expressed the demands for holding those accountable who inflicted injuries on the protesting crowd. At the same time, the authorities called to keep calm and to refrain from spreading false information on social networks.
Once again, the case has revealed growing dissatisfaction among people regarding administrative affairs in Bihar.
