Six FIRs have been lodged by Delhi Police in relation to certain events reported during the protest march called Sansad Chalo carried out by CJP along with some farmer groups due to disturbances and clash in certain areas in the national capital. It has been mentioned that the FIRs have been filed in relation to the cases of violence, vandalism, unlawful assembly, and other cases reported during the protest.
According to the sources from the police department, FIRs have been filed at Parliament Street, Connaught Place, and other police stations under Section 125, 134, 147, and various sections of the BNS, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and other laws. Investigation is also underway through CCTV, drone camera, and other video footage to locate the individuals involved in these incidents.
The march was planned to highlight the issues associated with the education system and examination system. As the demonstrators tried to go towards the parliament, the police had stopped their processions due to prohibitory orders and security arrangements in the high-security zone when the parliament session was going on.
The police authorities stated that, apart from the six FIRs which had been filed, the case would continue to be investigated and legal action would be initiated if more evidence came to light. It has been learnt that investigators are checking if there was any conspiracy behind the violence which took place during the march.
At the same time, organizers of the protest march and opposition politicians have criticized the police action, saying that it was an attempt to deny the right to peacefully protest against the government to the citizens. The government authorities have justified their actions, saying that such security measures were required due to the sensitivity of the areas around Parliament House.
These recent events have raised another level of protests, which have extended beyond the main issues on which people are protesting to include matters concerning the conduct of the police and the right of the citizens to peaceful protest.
