Rainfall has exceeded the normal levels for July in the country’s capital following another bout of rain showers, which provided relief to the city from the extended period of heat and humidity. The latest bout of rain has been helpful in adding to the total rainfall figure for the month and therefore making July one of the wettest months.
As a result of the rains, there has been a fall in temperature because of cloudy skies and cool winds in the area. On the other hand, the rain showers also affected the activities of the people in different sections of the city. There were reports of waterlogging in certain areas as well as traffic jams along busy roads due to the heavy rains.
According to weather experts, the rainfall has helped the city exceed the normal rainfall for the month, with the rains being attributed to favorable monsoon conditions in north India.
The civic bodies continued to be on guard against any issues concerning waterlogging, blocked drains, and fallen tree branches, which required immediate attention in the form of municipal forces being dispatched to ensure that the traffic flowed smoothly.
The rainfall will provide the much-needed respite from dust and pollution in the air, thus providing some much-needed freshness to the greenery of the city. However, it also raises concerns about the drainage system in place as it becomes quite evident due to repeated instances of urban floods.
The IMD has predicted chances of light to moderate rainfall in the upcoming days and this clearly indicates that the monsoon has not yet left Delhi. Residents have been advised to stay alert to any weather updates as intermittent rains will continue to provide much-needed relief from the summer heat.
