Rekha Gupta has been announced as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She will take charge on February 20, 2025, becoming the 9th CM of Delhi, succeeding Atishi Marlena. This marks a historic comeback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after 27 years. Rekha Gupta is also the fourth woman to hold this prestigious position.
Who is Rekha Gupta?
Born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana, Rekha Gupta moved to Delhi at the age of two. She completed her education at Delhi University, earning degrees in Commerce, Management, and Arts. Her political journey began when she became President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1996-97.

She later served as a Municipal Councillor in Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and was re-elected in 2012. In the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, she won from the Shalimar Bagh seat, defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes.

Rekha Gupta has played key roles in BJP Delhi, serving as the General Secretary of the state unit and a member of BJP’s National Executive. She is known for her work in women’s empowerment, community development, and education reforms.
Her appointment as Chief Minister is backed by the RSS, which supported the idea of a female leader for the position.
Oath-Taking Ceremony
Rekha Gupta will officially take the oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister on February 20, 2025, at Ramleela Maidan. The grand event is expected to be attended by 30,000 guests, marking the beginning of a new era in Delhi politics.
