There were continuous disruptions in the Parliament on Wednesday as members of parliament belonging to the opposition conducted a protest inside and outside the two Houses for the people who were protesting for their problems. There were continuous adjournments as the lawmakers raised slogans and called for an urgent discussion on the issue.
The opposition leaders blamed the government for not paying heed to the complaints of the protesters and asked the Parliament to solve the issue of the protesters through a debate. Carrying placards and shouting slogans, some of the lawmakers had gathered near the well of the House.
The disruptions in the Parliament interrupted the legislative work as there were disruptions in both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha soon after the work started.
In response to the conduct of the opposition, government representatives noted that Parliament was the right place for productive discussions, not for disturbances. They emphasized that the problems of the opposition could be raised by using parliamentary mechanisms and appealed to work together to ensure the normal operation of the parliament.
While outside the parliament, the protests went on, emphasizing the necessity of the prompt reaction from the side of the government. The opposition parties supported the protestors and claimed that they spoke out about the problems which needed to be seriously considered by the policymakers.
The current confrontation demonstrates yet another conflict between the ruling government and opposition concerning the treatment of the grievances of people. According to political scientists, there may be more such conflicts during the session of the Parliament as the discussion of many problems has been heated among the public.
Since no side is ready to make concessions, the impasse is likely to become one of the main features of the ongoing parliamentary session. Whether it will be possible to solve this problem by means of negotiation or not depends on the future interactions between the government and opposition.
