DMRC on Wednesday temporarily closed 16 metro stations in the central part of Delhi owing to security reasons, causing difficulties to a huge number of passengers. This temporary closing has become necessary owing to new security arrangements made in the national capital in connection with ongoing protest rallies and meetings.
These metro stations have been closed indefinitely and they include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. Although there is no entry or exit service at these metro stations, interchange service continues to operate at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat.
This has caused a lot of inconvenience to office employees, students, and other commuters who have found themselves obliged to look for alternative means of commuting as they cannot use metro trains now.
DMRC has informed the passengers that they should be checking the service updates from their official communications before setting out on their journey. DMRC has also requested the cooperation of the commuters from the security forces as well as following any instructions provided by the authorities.
No timetable has been given by the authorities regarding the opening up of these stations, and services will resume only when security agencies feel that things are back to normal. In the meantime, travelers are expected to plan their journey ahead and make use of other metro stations wherever possible.
