Over 4.7 Lakh Pirated NCERT Textbooks Seized Since 2024, Reveals Education Ministry in Rajya Sabha

In a concerning revelation shared in the Rajya Sabha, the Education Ministry reported that over 4.71 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks have been seized across India since 2024. The data was disclosed by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary in a written reply to the Upper House on Wednesday.

Addressing the issue of piracy of NCERT textbooks, Chaudhary stated, “Instances of piracy of NCERT textbooks have been received from different parts of the country. During the years 2024 and 2025, approximately 4.71 lakh pirated copies have been seized in various operations across different states. Piracy is driven primarily by the commercial motives of unscrupulous elements.

The seizure of such a large volume of pirated NCERT books has sparked serious concerns about the impact on education quality and the legal publishing ecosystem. The Education Ministry on NCERT pirated books emphasized the need for stronger enforcement and greater awareness to curb such malpractices.

The piracy of NCERT textbooks not only affects government revenue but also jeopardizes the authenticity and accuracy of educational content reaching students. Pirated copies often contain errors, poor print quality, and missing chapters, negatively impacting millions of learners across the country.
