The Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced three key changes in the rules for Aadhaar that shall come into play from November 1, 2025. These changes make it easier to update your Aadhaar, change key personal details online, and enforce mandatory linkage of PAN with Aadhaar.
Here’s what you need to know.
1. Online Update for Name, Address, DOB & Mobile Number
Beginning November 1, Aadhaar card holders can update their name, address, date of birth and mobile number entirely online.
- It automatically verifies through the existing government databases of PAN, passport, voter ID, and others, hence eliminating or reducing the manual document upload.
- Biometric updations-fingerprint, iris, and photo-still require a physical visit for verification at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
2. Revised Charges for Updating Aadhaar
UIDAI has revised its fee structure for various update services.
- Rs.75 for Demographic Change in name, address, DoB & Mobile
- ₹ 125 for biometric updates (fingerprint, iris scan, photo)
- Online document-only updates are free until June 14, 2026. After that, a fee may apply.
- Biometric updates are free for children in the following age groups: 5–7 years and 15–17 years.
3. Linking of Aadhaar and PAN: Now Mandatory
- From November 1, linking your Aadhaar with PAN will become mandatory.
- The deadline for completing this link is December 31, 2025.
- If you fail to link by this date, your PAN may be deactivated from January 1, 2026.
- Similarly, verification with Aadhaar is required during the registration process for new applicants for PAN. Accordingly, it will be mandatory for banks and financial institutions to support paperless e-KYC through methods such as OTP verification or video calls.
What should Aadhaar holders do now?
- Check whether your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active and correct, as this is required for the OTP-based update process.
- If you need to update your name, address, or date of birth, try doing so online via the myAadhaar portal.
- Link your PAN-Aadhaar before the deadline of December 31 to avoid last-minute hassles.
- You would have to physically go to an Aadhaar centre for a biometric update: fingerprint, iris and photo.
Why These Changes Matter
These changes mark a significant breakthrough in making Aadhaar more digital, user-friendly, and efficient. Through minimising physical visits and paperwork, UIDAI is making it easier for users to keep the Aadhaar information accurate. In contrast, linking PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory and must enhance verification of identity while making all financial transactions smoother.
