The spy-action drama Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh, will have a worldwide opening on 5 December 2025, across around 5,000 screens in India.
The pre-release excitement translated into brisk advance bookings as the film crossed the ₹1 crore mark in gross pre-sales within hours of opening.
By mid-week before its release, the total advance booking figure for day one reached approximately ₹2.28 crore with about 50,000 tickets sold across the country.
But despite that early surge, ticket sales have markedly slowed in the final 48 hours leading into release—casting questions of whether the film’s opening might actually lose momentum.
What Box-Office Insiders Are Predicting
If the trends continue, trade experts estimate Dhurandhar could rake in ₹15–20 crore net on the first day of its release in India. A slightly optimistic prediction pegs it at ₹18–20 crore.
This would signal the biggest opening post-pandemic for Ranveer, but it is unlikely to surpass the biggest Hindi openers of 2025, Saiyaara and Chhaava, which have collected approximately ₹21.5 crore and ₹31 crore, respectively.
More significantly, it does not stand a chance at matching the record-shattering ₹64 crore net opening of Animal 2023.
Why Expectations Are High — and Where Uncertainty Lingers
What’s working to Dhurandhar’s advantage:
Also, the eclectic ensemble cast comprising Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna evokes widespread interest.
A widely acclaimed trailer and social-media hype, building anticipation in audiences that were expecting an action-packed spy thriller.
The scale and production values of the film make it one of the bigger Hindi projects released this year.
Factors creating reluctance:
The deceleration in advance bookings in the final days may signal a lull in audience enthusiasm — or uncertainty over the film’s actual content and appeal.
Some trade predictions have been revised downward; a ₹25 crore+ opening now appears unlikely.
In the face of big numbers set by Saiyaara, Chhaava and Animal in 2025 and 2023, respectively, Dhurandhar might find it hard to match up in scale – especially if early word-of-mouth is lukewarm.
Verdict: Good But Not Grand — A Sensible Opening on Cards
With current trends, Dhurandhar is shaping up for a strong but not record-breaking opening. A realistic expectation would be somewhere between ₹ 15-20 crore on Day 1, which will make it Ranveer’s best post-pandemic start. But beating the heavyweights like Saiyaara, Chhaava or Animal looks unlikely – unless the film picks up a lot of steam via positive word-of-mouth. The movie contains a high-stakes spy thriller with a powerful cast for moviegoers, but its impact ultimately depends upon the response of the audience in its first week.
