This latest development concerning the workers’ agitation in Noida in April 2026 pertains to the bail order for Aakriti Chaudhary, a 25-year-old Delhi University graduate, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA). Moreover, apart from granting the bail order, the Allahabad High Court also ordered that she be given compensation in the form of ₹5 lakh from the State.

In this particular case, a division bench, consisting of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Achal Sachdev, handed down this decision in response to the habeas corpus petition filed by Chaudhary in regard to her detention under NSA.

It is pertinent to note that this decision was based on fabricated facts, and there were many irregularities in the arrest and detention process of Chaudhary, as per the bench. The facts behind this case pertain to the workers’ agitation in Noida, where they had been agitating for their rights regarding improvements in salary and working conditions. However, later, the situation turned violent and involved stone pelting and arson cases.

Chaudhary, however, claimed that she had participated in the protest in her capacity as a social worker out of solidarity with the workers and that she was not one of the organizers of the protest. The defense team of Chaudhary questioned the basis of detention, stating that the charges against her were rather vague and did not have specific materials.

The high court too raised issues with the state regarding the evidence that backed their allegation against Chaudhary and that included allegations of inciting the crowd to indulge in arson and throwing stones.

Despite ordering that if she was not required for any other case, Chaudhary be set free, Chaudhary is not expected to leave prison anytime soon as she still has several other FIRs pending on account of the Noida protest and is bailed out in only a few of those cases.
