The upcoming Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Ramayana’ has already caught eyeballs before the release, with the Ramlila Mahasangh voicing concern over the depiction of the revered epic in the film. The organization has asked the filmmakers to arrange a pre-release screening of the movie, saying that they wish to examine the film and hope that the sentiments associated with the Ramayana are kept in mind.
The call for screening comes as the movie, being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is making waves among audiences. It is perhaps the most exciting adaptation of the Indian epic to date, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, with other top stars playing other roles from the fabled epic.
Representatives of the Ramlila Mahasangh have apparently voiced concern about creative liberty in mythological movies and are demanding clarity from the filmmakers. They have said that the pre-release screening would help them understand the depiction of the characters, culture, and traditions of the Ramayana on screen.
In addition to this, the group has threatened to organise demonstrations if they find any material which they consider misleading about the epic and hurt the religious sentiments. However, till date, there has been no announcement from the filmmakers on the issue of organising a special screening as demanded by the group.
