Neeraj Chopra was in top shape in Paris on Friday, as he claimed his first Diamond League title in two years, beating Germany’s Julian Weber. Chopra’s opening throw of 88.16m took him to the title. In his second attempt, he achieved 85.10m and then fouled in the next three attempts. Then in his sixth and last attempt, he achieved 82.89m.
Weber finished second at 87.88m in his opening throw, ahead of Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva, who recorded 86.62m in his second effort.
Chopra had crossed the 90m barrier at the Doha Diamond League recently with 90.23m, but had to be content with a second-place finish. At the Doha event, Weber took the gold, with his penultimate round effort of 91.06m.
Weber also beat Chopra during the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Poland, where overcast and windy conditions saw the German record a 86.12m. while Chopra was second at 84.14m throw.

Chopra last won a Diamond League competition in Lausanne in June 2023, throwing 87.66 meters. Since then, he has placed second in six Diamond League competitions overall.

Neeraj was also in action at Paris Diamond League after eight long years after finishing eighth in 2017 with a personal best throw of 84.67m. The Paris leg was the eighth of the 15 meetings that form the Diamond League 2025 season, with a two-day final in Zurich in August.
