In an important event for the higher education sector of India, Prof. Arun Mohan Sherry has been
selected as the new Director of Indian Institute of Management Shillong for a period of five years.
This decision has been taken by the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the Indian
Institutes of Management, setting the stage for the next chapter in the leadership history of one of the
best institutes of management of the country.
Prof. Arun Mohan Sherry has had a long track record of excellence in the field of academics,
administration and institutional leadership. Since 2019, he has been serving as the founding director of
Indian Institute of Information Technology Lucknow, where he had played a key role in making the
institute a center of excellence for education and research in the field of information technology.
Due to his innovations in the field of innovation, interdisciplinarity, and technology-based education,
Prof. Sherry is expected to take IIM Shillong into a new dimension of the use of emerging
technologies like artificial intelligence and data sciences in education and research in management.
While commenting about his appointment, he pointed out that one of the main focuses of his will be
on using AI in research, business analysis, and management.
IIM Shillong was established in 2007 and is now one of the premier institutions of management in
India specializing in sustainable development, leadership and responsible management education.
Recently, the institution got worldwide attention through international accreditation which further
added to its reputation in the field of management education.
Management education experts think that experience of Prof. Sherry in institutional development and
technology leadership will play a great role in shaping the future of IIM Shillong.
With the appointment of Prof. Arun Mohan Sherry as the new leader of IIM Shillong, stakeholders
both within the academic and industry circles will be keen to see what vision he will bring into the
future development of the institute. Given his rich academic and administrative experience, it is
